Biography

I am Clara Cañero Lois (Valencia, 1993), a specialist in Art Law and Intellectual Property with a passion for the arts and culture. I hold a PhD cum laude in Law from the University of Valencia (2023) with an scholarship of the Ministry of Education (2016), as well as a Diploma in Art Market Law from CEU San Pablo University (2024) and a LLM in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Edinburgh (2016) with a scholarship for postgraduate studies from La Caixa Foundation (2015). My passion for continuous learning and personal growth led me to enrol in Art History at La Rioja University, another step in my journey towards the world of art and culture.

My education has always focused on merging art and law: my doctoral thesis focuses on the vague boundary between industrial designs and works of art, and my research interests include the socio-cultural and legal concept of art, the demarcation between fine art and applied art, the legality of unauthorised transformative works such as fanfiction, or failures as copyrighted works. Over the course of my career, I have published 2 articles y 4 book chapters, with another article and book chapter soon to be published, and I have participated as speaker in 16 national and international conferences and seminars, and have organised more than thirty events.

With years of experience as researcher, educator, speaker, project manager and event organiser, my professional journey has been enriching and diverse. As a coordinator and postdoctoral researcher in the LegalCripto project at the University of Alicante (10/2023 – 02/2024), I was responsible for researching NFTs and the art market, organising numerous events, managing the project's social media and website, and translating into Spanish and English. During my time as a predoctoral researcher at the Universitat de València (10/2017 – 02/2022), I taught Commercial Law classes at various universities and undergraduate programmes, participated in university management as a representative at the University Senate, organised over thirty events, and completed a research stay at the Max Planck Institute in Munich, as well as short stays at the Universities of Münster, Wroclaw and Cambridge.

As a multifaceted person with multiple passions, I have trained in voice acting and narration (2023) and I am a guest voice actress in the show "Vamos a morir todas" at the Teatro Talía in Valencia (04/2024 – 12/2024). Additionally, during my university years, I balanced my studies with occasional work as an events hostess at Azaba Eventos (11/2013 – 05/2017), created and managed a literary criticism blog called Antes de Leer, and was an editorial reader for various publishing houses (08/2011 – 09/2014). Other interests of mine include practicing aerial silks, studying sewing and pattern making, and collecting tarot decks.
